Book Tales is simplistic in its approach to increasing literacy levels for children, young people and adults, our aim is to encourage reading for pleasure.  It is proven that reading for pleasure increases literacy levels, improves communication skills, develops independent thought, expands knowledge and feeds the imagination.

Reading for pleasure is a gift that can be enjoyed by everyone, libraries and second hand bookshops are great places to indulge imaginations with creative nourishment.

Book Tales runs reading groups, storytelling groups and fun literacy interventions for any age, gender or ability.

Using drama, we investigate the stories we read, we visualise and create images and scene settings with our bodies, we get to know characters, we explore their emotions, we discuss what makes them tick, we walk and talk the characters, whilst playing and having fun we become the story.

Creative writing has many benefits, it can exercise the brain, it gathers thoughts, it provides a therapy, it is a source of self-discovery.  Most of all it is fun to be creative in Book Tales groups.  We provide a place where anyone can feel safe to express themselves at any level, it is the taking part that matters in our groups, listening to the work of others and sharing our work. However no-one is ever expected to share or read aloud if they don't wish to.

We find our inspiration from book sources but also many other places, from pictures to song tracks of our lives.

As a creative service we like to offer new and exciting packages to suit your specific needs. Our Bug Project was just one way to explore a book and  encourage reading for children who are reluctant readers.  We use reading, writing, drama, games and craft activities. If you have any thoughts or ideas speak to us and we will help you bring it alive. Everything we do is to encourage reading, writing and literacy, whilst having fun learning.

Warning: Making friends, developing new skills and growing in confidence are likely to happen along the way!
